A stroll through South Tyrol's cities!
A journey of discovery to the unique towns of Brixen, Bruneck and Sterzing - ready for an adventure
in South Tyrol?
Brixen - the oldest town in Tyrol - is just a 10-minute drive away. It is a real gem of history. With its imposing cathedral, the winding alleyways of the old town and the arcades, it transports you straight back to the Middle Ages. But don't be fooled, because Brixen also has modern cafés, first-class restaurants and hip stores to offer. Here, history, culture and enjoyment come together in an explosive mix - a place just waiting to be discovered by you.
A little further away, but still reachable in 30 minutes by car, Sterzing is the northernmost town in Italy and definitely worth a visit. It has even been named one of the most beautiful small towns in Italy - no wonder! Stroll through the small old town with its pastel-colored houses and the imposing town tower, also known as the Zwölferturm, the landmark of Sterzing (see picture). The alpine town is known for its artisan traditions, beautiful boutiques selling Italian designer fashion and cozy cafés.
A 40-minute drive to the east and Bruneck awaits you - a gem in the Pustertal Valley. The town impresses with its cosy old town, characterized by historic buildings and romantic alleyways. It invites you to stroll and linger. But Bruneck has even more to offer: Exquisite gastronomy and traditional craftsmanship at its best. Bruneck Castle with the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa, which was once the summer residence of the prince-bishops and is now dedicated to the mountain peoples from all over the world - Asia, Africa, South America and Europe - as well as their culture, religion and tourism with the permanent exhibition "The Heritage of the Mountains", is an impressive sight.
